It's March! I am another year older and not much wiser. The world is changing, and I am unsure as to whether that's a good thing or a bad thing.
Looks as if war with Iraq is inevitable at this date. It seems to me that if Saddam Hussein had biological and chemical weapons and now says he does not, but cannot or will not provide proof of their destruction that there is a fairly decent case for going in and removing him based upon U.N. resolutions. All I recall the naysayers now saying after 9/11 was 'Why didn't we do something to prevent it?' They are ,in my opinion, currently providing the answer to that question.
Someone whose opinions and writing I greatly respect, Camille Paglia, came out with an anti-war essay recently, but unfortunately did not answer the pertinent question of what had happened to Hussein's arsenal. Her other points were well-presented, though. Lots of celebrities coming out anti-war as well. Since they did not speak up during any of Clinton's military actions, I am inclined to assume that their problem is not with the war itself but with who is in the White House. Unfortunately, due tio the fawning 'reporters' of AccessEntertainmentHollywoodExtraTonight they are given a platform that the rest of us do not have in order to practice their right to free speech. Too bad the 'reporters' don't follow up with 'That's a nice opinion about the country. Now back to something you have some expertise in.What's your next movie/cocaine/TV deal?' Post-Grammy's, a reporter asked a girlsinger if she could write a song about peace or the upcoming war what would she write? HUH??!! Just who exactly would write a war song? Either the reporter was stupid or had an agenda. Yet no one calls these people on any of it.
Peace protests were big yesterday as a way to get out of classes around the country.I loved the sign I saw one guy carrying that said 'Bomb Texas'. Real peaceful. Ghandi would've been proud. And as usual the Pope called for peace. Fasting was in order I believe. As it coincides with Lent it was nicely timed. Perhaps the Pope could also call for giving up pedophilia among the clergy for peace, or would that be too much of a hardship? At least he didn't go so far as to suggest making love, not war.
Speaking of pedophiles, looks as if Scott Ritter has more than one thing in common with the priesthood! Who would have thought? And last month was also big for R.Kelly ansd Michael Jackson! Nice to see the country worrying about the children of Iraq. Too bad people aren't a bit more worried about the children over here.
Matt Drudge added an extra hour to his Sunday night radio show! He has a great style, making the listener feel as if he/she is actually experiencing breaking news. The fastest three hours in radio! Michael Savage is apparently getting a TV show. I doubt it'll be great TV, but it has to be better than Donahue! GLAAD is already attacking him for anti-gay opinions. However they usually buckle when dealing with a man, unlike the Dr. Laura campaigns. Something about not taking on someone who might actually fight back, I think.
60 Minutes apparently has hired Bill Clinton and Bob Dole to do Point/Counterpoint starting next week. Too bad they probably won't be discussing the merits of Viagra or how to handl being a Congressperson's husband.
Television has become one reality show after another, each scarier than the last! I will admit that I watch American Idol, as I did the first time. Clay is such an odd-looking great singer, and Tenisha (not sure of the spelling) has an amazing talent! Kimberly will probably not win, but after advertising her singleness this evening, perhaps she'll be on a future 'Bachelorette'?
In non-reality TV, both 'Buffy' and 'Angel' continue to entertain. Sarah Michelle Geller made it official that her series is ending, and the two shows are starting to cross over again. Seems like the formula for a BIG ending! Eliza Dushku, by the way, is EXCELLENT as Faith. Just the shot in the arm that both series needed. (Though Principal Wood is a close second!)
The cast of C.S.I. Miami still fails to interest me. The original C.S.I. is still very well done, and we learn more about the Investigators as time goes on, yet the focus is still on the investigating. Better to want to learn more about tha characters than to be hit over the head by backstory, IMO.
Just when I had tired of the 'Kryptonite-of-the-week' plots on 'Smallville', they decide to rev up the series! Though I was suspicious of the stunt-casting of Christopher Reeve last week, the episode opened up new doors and explained just enough to breathe new life into the show! Though we all know what will eventually happen to the characters it is fun watching them arrive at their fates. (Though Ma Kent's pregnancy never happened in the comics, and Chloe didn't exist, so who knows what other changes they might allow?)
'Alias' finally brought together Sydney and Vaughn, the only couple other than Lex and Clark on 'Smallville' who convince me when they are screen together that they are in love! With the end of SD6 it looked as if there would be no more mission for the Bristow family. But instead it has just gotten more exciting, this past week's plot with Irina being a major development. And Vaughn and Sydney still have such a great chemistry that they might break the rule that couples become boring once you remove the 'will they ever get together?' factor.
I am liking the new look for Aquaman in the comics. They finally gave him a shave and a haircut! Supergirl got interesting just in time to be cancelled! While thankfully the Titans are being put out of their misery by being cancelled. Loebs and Lee have brought the Bat and Cat together for the first time in their current incarnation, and they work beautifully as always! Marvel gave a spotlight issue of the Avengers to the Falcon, a character for too long left in limbo! NICE! Let's hope this becomes a series.(Unlike DC, which gave a power ring to the long-unwritten John Stewart only to ignore him in the book which bears the name Green Lantern!) And Wonder Woman has returned, at least for an arc, to the 'mod' 60s look. Not something which will last, but she's not as annoying as she has been for the past couple of years. Still hard to believe that such great art could be combined with such awful storytelling! Perhaps we'll find out that the entire Jiminez-run was a bad dream!
Still haven't seen 'The Two Towers'. I guess it's because it's the 'middle' movie, it just doesn't seem all that exciting. Couldn't get up the interest in 'Daredevil' either. In fact I don't think I will have seen any of the films nominated for this year's Oscars. Oh well, they will do fine without me.
That's all for now.
